A Win or a Loss

by Eric Harrison

/

about

An anthem for the exhausted majority or a cop out? Well . . . as Derek Smalls might say, amidst the fire and ice of the radical left and right I view my role as something in between, sort of the lukewarm water.

lyrics

Intro Am C D

Does it have to be a win or a loss? (G Em)
Must we be celebrated or defeated? (F D)
This town is big enough for both of us (G Em)
You and me (Am C D)

(G Em C D)
Four ships jockey for passage
Inlet closing and frozen with fear
The first hit the fourth
And the third hit the second
Fire on deck - the end is near

(C D G Em)
Think of your mother
And the promise you made
See the beauty of the shoreline from the waters we wade in

(C D F D)
It doesn’t have to be over and done
If you go under I haven’t won
———

Does it have to be a win or a loss? (G Em)
Must we be celebrated or defeated? (F D)
This town is big enough for both of us (G Em)
You and me (Am C D)
——
(G Em C D)
There’s a gun on the table in the opening scene
Let’s let it lie if you know what I mean
The ammunition comes at too high a price
A friendship isn’t worth the sacrifice

(C D G Em)
It’s not okay if you’re corralled
By another lost sheriff who’ll be outgeneralled

(C D F D)
I want a governor who will govern me
One who agrees we can disagree
—-
Does it have to be a win or a loss? (G Em)
Must we be celebrated or defeated? (F D)
This town is big enough for both of us (G Em)
You and me (Am C D)

——-

(G Em C D)
A seeker of truth will only find folly
In a land where it’s all how you feel
I could rob Peter to pay Paul and Molly
Nobody makes a dollar from that deal

(C D G Em)
I’ll take a life jacket and a helping hand
Not every battle is a final stand

(C D F Am)
All or nothing in a constant fight
Take it away
I don’t want that right

(Am C D)

Does it have to be a win or a loss? (G Em)
Must we be celebrated or defeated? (F D)
This town is big enough for both of us (G Em)
You and me (Am C D)

Call up the courage to balk at the cost
And leave a battle cry unheeded

This town is big enough for both of us
You and me
